Glenn and Carpenter are the last surviving members of NASA's first astronaut group, convened in 1959. Glenn made his historic first U.S. orbital flight aboard the Mercury capsule in February 1962; Carpenter flew a three-orbit mission on Aurora 7 in May 1962.
